Claire Gundersen (Ms. G.) has been playing piano for 10 years and enjoys composing music for piano, as well as chorus and orchestra. She is a Music Composition and Music Production major at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, OH. Ms Gundersen believes teaching piano to young people is exciting because she loves to see them grow as musicians, especially as they become increasingly curious and ask questions. She understands that learning a new instrument can be difficult, but feels tremendous joy in seeing students grow and develop new skills and abilities. As a result over time, students may utilize these skills to create, write, and improvise musical creations of their own, which is one of Ms Gundersen’s favorite pastimes!
Ms Gundersen believes music education is beneficial for childhood development and skills. Students benefit from learning a musical instrument because it requires diligence, which is a skill needed for success in life. In addition, it instills a sense of accomplishment in students when they accomplish something that is new and challenging. As they progress and improve in their newly gained skills, they experience the value of perseverance. Finally, Ms Gundersen believes and understands that music-making is wonderful form of self expression. It is a special way to share ourselves and connect with people around us.
