Every chance I get I love to play duets with my students.  They give the student a chance to hear multiple harmonies as well as help with counting, rhythmic steadiness, and the ability to anticipate the beat.  They are also super FUN!!

Franz Liszt was known for his amazing abilities to play REALLY FAST PIANO!  His fast and furious playing would often make the ladies in the audience swoon!  This was back in the 1800s when ladies would swoon!!    Here is an example of one of his pieces for Piano.  See the video below!  It especially gets exciting around minute 6!
Super Fast Fingers!
Here Is an example of Liszt's "Mazeppa."  He wrote two versions of these pieces.  This was actually the simpler version, because his original versions were so difficult to play, no one could play them!!  and did I mention that this pianist from Japan is blind??!!  NOW GO PRACTICE!!

All students in the piano studio are now members of THE A-LISZT Junior Music Club, named after the famous piano and composer Franz Liszt  This music club is part of the National Federation of Music Clubs that sponsors our Festival in February.    I am working to get all the students a little statue of Liszt as well as maybe club T-Shirts!!  Should be fun!  Stay tuned for more info on this Special composer!

Some ideas when trying to help your piano students at home...

Be generous with encouraging remarks, even though a good effort may not have produced successful results.  Treat praise with caution, avoid verbalizing irritation, and reward your child with your love and appreciation.

As you advance in the repertoire, spend more and more time reviewing and improving the pieces learned.

Once or twice a week, have the student give a home concert for the parent who does not usually supervise the practice sessions.  Include bowing and applause.

Sense when a practice session is over.  It is more important to return to the instrument with joy and enthusiasm tomorrow than to force a few extra minutes today.
